Pedro Paixão honoured

In the exhibition installed in the lobby of Funchal City Hall there is a tribute to the recently deceased driver Pedro Paixão. The memorial includes a photo of the young driver, his competition suit and the helmet he wore in his last rally participations. There is also a book where you can write messages and dedications to Pedro Paixão. Taking advantage of the location of the Parc Fermé in Praça do Município, all drivers and co-drivers participating in the Rali Vinho da Madeira 2022 will be invited to leave their messages in memory of the deceased driver. The book will then be handed over to the family.  The Mayor of Funchal, Pedro Calado, also a rally participant and winner as co-driver of Alexandre Camacho, of the 2021 RVM edition, remembered the late driver "Good moments you left us, good memories will remain forever in our memories... inside the Special Stages we were adversaries, outside them friends. Always together", wrote Pedro Calado. José Paulo Fontes, President of the Organizing Committee of RVM, also left his dedication "RVM 2022 lacks the vivacity of a different driver. Pedro, we will miss you forever, still your Passion will always be with us. Rally is Passion. Thank you Pedro" The Clerk of the Course of RVM 2022, Pedro Araújo left the message "Your Passion is also ours for the sport we love so much".

Reinforce the leadership in the CPR

Armindo Araújo goes to the next edition of the Rali Vinho da Madeira with a Skoda Fabia Rally2 Evo and his goals are "very clear. We intend to reinforce our leadership in the Portuguese Rally Championship and get closer to the national title. Our participation will be calculated, thinking about the championship and we hope it will be a good operation. This rally has characteristic difficulties and is quite challenging. Sometimes with wet areas in the morning and the choice of tyres is crucial. We will give our best and see how we position ourselves." Araújo is 44 years old and made his first rally in 2000 with a Renault Clio 16V. That same year he was Promotion Champion with a Citroën Saxo Cup. With the same model, in the following year he won the Saxo Trophy. He then went on to officially represent Citroën and, a few years later, Mitsubishi or even Mini in the World Championship. Along the way he was National Champion six times and World Production Champion twice. He is the leader of the National Championship.

Exhibition evokes memories and emotion

The twists and Turns of the "Volta" is the title of the temporary exhibition at Madeira Photography Museum - Atelier Vicente's. The exhibition opened today and may be visited until September 30th. In the various rooms of the museum, 64 photographs taken by Casa Fotográfica Perestrellos, tell the story of the 1st “Volta à Madeira Island Tour by car”, which took place on June 16th, 1959, as well as the automobile competitions that preceded it: the Rampa dos Barreiros, organized by the Automóvel Clube de Portugal, in 1935; the gymkhana of the Club Sports Madeira, in 1936, the 1st and 2nd Madeira Automobile Rally, respectively in 1948 and 1949, organized by the Rotary Club of Funchal. Besides the photographs, there are also some objects on display, donated by private persons and by the Club Sports da Madeira, which evoke memories of the emotions experienced in these mythical races.  The Regional Secretary of Tourism and Culture, Eduardo Jesus, referred at the occasion that the new exhibition will be a moment to associate the regional culture to the great festival of motorized sport of the Region which is the Rali Vinho da Madeira. "This competition has a history and to remember the “I Tour of the Island”, as well as others that preceded it, is to honour the past and pay tribute to those who allowed us to get this far today", said Eduardo Jesus.
