A great outcome for the National Championship

Miguel Correia, behind the wheel of a Skoda Fabia Rally2 Evo, arrives in Madeira "with redoubled ambitions and added motivation as we are the leaders of the Portuguese Rally Championship. I have never hidden from anyone that the Rali Vinho Madeira is one of my favourite, not only because of the fantastic roads, but also because of the atmosphere surrounding the event. We are always very well received by the Madeirans, especially by the entire structure of our main sponsor, Socicorreia. The goals for this edition are naturally to drive fast and well to guarantee a good result for the national championship and, if possible, to fight for a place on the final podium. Our accounts for the title depend on this result and so we will enter confidently and with our focus well aligned with our goals " About two weeks before his 32nd birthday, Correia made his debut in the sport in 2017 with a Renault Clio R3 Maxi. The following year, with the same car, he won the ERT3 title in the FIA European Rally Trophy. Since then, he has been behind the wheel of a Ford Fiesta R5, Skoda Fabia R5 and, since 2021, the current vehicle. He won his first championship event in 2022 at the Terras d'Aboboreira Rally.

To drive the best that we can and win RGT

Filipe Freitas returns to the Rali Vinho da Madeira with the Porsche 991 GT3 and intends to "drive the best that we can and win the RGT group. In this rally we will be 5 competitors in this group and that will bring more excitement. Besides, I'll wait and see during the race where we position ourselves to set goals in terms of the general classification. In Machico our car still lacked some parts that we will already have in this competition and, logically, our times should improve. Last year we had a shortage of tyres and in 2023, at least at this stage, we still don't know if we will have all the ones we need. I hope the weather is mild because with the Porsche we suffer a lot in the rain or in the heat." Freitas is 51 years old and completed his first rally in 1998 with a Citroën AX GTi. The following year he switched to a Citroën Saxo and has since driven Renault Clio RS, Citroën Saxo Kit-Car, Opel Astra Kit-Car, VW Golf IV Kit-Car, Renault Clio S1600 and Porsche 997 GT3. He was absolute regional champion in 2013 and 2016 with a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo X, RGT in 2016, 2020 and 2022 and two-wheel drive in 2009.

Some vehicles are already in Madeira

The first group of vehicles that will participate in the next edition of Rali Vinho da Madeira and that come from outside the archipelago have already landed on the island. As planned for this transport, which in 2023 will be phased given the size of the logistics operation involved, the unloading at the Port of Caniçal of the competition cars and other support vehicles of the Sports & You teams, Bernardo Sousa, Diego Ruiloba, Kris Meeke and Paulo and Pedro Meireles, and Racing4You, Ernesto Cunha and Rafael Cardeira, took place this afternoon.

It will all be different

Gil Freitas debuts an Alpine A110 RGT in Rali Vinho da Madeira, in a presence where "the essential thing is to participate, finish and try to have the most fun. We start without any goal in terms of classification or results. I will only drive the car one day before the race and only during the competition will I get to know the Alpine of Chazel, one of the teams that developed it. I think this is going to be a very competitive edition of the RGT group and I'm off the pace. We're going to take part and drive. It will be new for us. There's everything to be surprised about". The driver made his debut in 2013 with an Opel Kadett GT/E, a model from which he changed, in the same year, to an Opel Ascona 400. Between 2014 and 2016 he was at the controls of a Porsche 997 GT3 and, on the ramps, he won the AMAK Trophy in all those years and, in rallies, he was national champion of the grouping in 2015. Since then, he has driven Citroën DS3 R5, Porsche 991 GT3, Subaru Impreza S14 WRC and, most recently, Hyundai i20 R5. The car to be used in the Club Sports da Madeira organisation is due to return to France after the event.

Message from the Regional Secretary for Tourism and Culture to the 2023 Edition of the RVM

The Regional Government, through the Regional Secretariat of Tourism and Culture, shall continue to support the Club Sports da Madeira to, once again, organise the "Rali Vinho da Madeira", bearing in mind that it is the largest socio-sports automobile event, which takes place annually in Madeira for more than six decades. The Autonomous Region of Madeira is a tourist destination of recognised quality, with great international visibility. Therefore, it is important for the Regional Government to be present at events such as this, with a wide impact abroad, which contribute towards increasing the visibility of Madeira as a destination through a diversified and comprehensive offer aimed at different audiences. In addition, each edition, together with the fact that it allows the locals and the people of Porto Santo to experience the rally with the same passion, which dates back to the first motor races in Madeira, represents a moment of economic induction in the Region, with the involvement achieved throughout the island. Aware of the importance of holding the rally, the Regional Government is grateful for the commitment and dedication of the Club Sports da Madeira in its organization, for which would like to leave a word of gratitude and recognition to its management and the entire team, which annually puts the competition on the road with the same determination and eagerness.
